Worskshop Description

In the studio, it is easy to get caught in the habit of making ten different things passably well, while never quite conquering the one shape you really want to achieve. We jump from mugs to plates to planters, hoping that simply spending time on the wheel will eventually equal mastery. But true growth doesn't happen by accident. It happens through deliberate, targeted focus, and a willingness to let go of "good enough." Welcome to The Rule of One Pottery Bootcamp. Led by ceramicist Kim Press of Sailing Adrift Studios, this 3 session intensive is not a traditional class where everyone works on the same project and takes home a box full of random pots. Instead, this workshop is a dedicated container for you to choose exactly ONE specific goal like throwing a flawless 2lb cylinder, conquering a 5lb bowl, or finally mastering centering and spending three solid classes building the muscle memory to own it completely. The Training Method During our time together, we will not be casually throwing. We will be using a unique, high repetition training framework designed to completely rewrite your physical habits. Through highly focused, guided repetition, you will learn how to read the clay differently. You will learn the mechanics of your own body, how to self diagnose your friction points in real time, and how to actively correct them on the very next ball of clay. We are stripping away the pressure to "produce" so you can focus entirely on your form. At the end of the three days, you will only walk away with ONE fired piece: your absolute best. But more importantly, you will walk away with permanent muscle memory, an elevated physical skill set, and the ability to teach yourself long after the class is over. The Details: Format: A 3 session, high repetition mastery intensive. Prerequisites: Students must have a basic understanding of wheel throwing and be able to consistently center at least 1 pound of clay.
