This fast-paced intermediate/advanced course is for students with foundational experience in both wheel throwing and hand building. It is not suitable for first-time potters or those still learning basic skills and terminology. Mastery isn't required, but you should be comfortable working independently so class time can focus on advanced forms and techniques. Unsure if you're ready? Contact Anna before registering and she'll help you find the best fit. ABOUT THE COURSE Six weeks, one three-hour class per week. Build on your existing skills while exploring more complex forms, such as combining thrown and hand-built components, altering thrown forms, and using multiple techniques in one piece. Focus on the wheel or hand building; demos are offered in both when possible. Each class has a planned focus, but you're encouraged to bring your own project ideas. Anna will help you plan, troubleshoot, and bring them to life. PREREQUISITES You should understand these terms (mastery not required): Wheel & Process: Wedging • Centering • Drilling down • Opening • Pulling • Trimming Clay & Surface: Leather hard • Greenware • Bisque • Glaze • Underglaze Hand Building: Slab • Coil • Hump mold • Slump mold You must be able to independently: • Wedge and center at least 2 lbs of clay • Set up and fully clean your wheel and workspace • Properly wrap and store work between classes These skills won't be taught from the beginning, but Anna will help you refine and troubleshoot them. CLASS SIZE & MATERIALS Limited to 8 students. Tuition includes studio tools, glazes, and standard bisque and glaze firing fees. Clay must be purchased from Enkindle Fire Studio (from $30 per 25-lb bag). MISSED CLASSES & OPEN STUDIO There are no make-up classes, but each student receives one Open Studio pass to practice, work, or catch up. NOT QUITE READY? ALL SALES ARE FINAL. I understand that participating at a pottery studio includes the use of tools and equipment that could potentially be dangerous. As is the case with any pottery studio you enter, the risk of injury is always present and cannot be entirely eliminated.
